Seon Williams is a community leader, entrepreneur, veteran, mentor, and neighborhood advocate whose work has helped strengthen the Champaign-Urbana community for many years.
As the owner of The Whip Hair Design, Seon turned his barbershop into more than a business. Located in the heart of the North End, The Whip became a trusted gathering place where people could connect, find support, and access important community resources. Through that space, Seon helped host prayer groups, prison re-entry meetings, youth development programs, basketball tournaments, job fairs, voter registration drives, North End Breakfast Club meetings, and other community-centered efforts.
Seon has also used entrepreneurship as a tool for service and empowerment. As the owner of Williams Memorial Services, The Whip Hair Design, and Lincoln Heritage Insurance, he understands the importance of building opportunities, supporting families, and investing in the neighborhoods that helped shape him.
His leadership extends across many community initiatives. Seon has partnered with the cities of Champaign and Urbana, the University of Illinois, and local organizations to support programs such as Walk As One, Station Adjustment, the Summer Youth Program, Community Coalition efforts, workforce development initiatives, and youth-focused programs. He currently serves as Board President of American Legion Post #559, Chair of the Champaign-Urbana Day Reform Advisory Board, and serves on committees for CU Fresh Start and Bristol Park Redevelopment.
Seon has received numerous local honors, including the City of Champaign Star Award, NAACP Business of the Year Award, Salem Baptist Church Pass the Torch Award, Michael Frerichs Community Service Award, MLK Countywide Celebration Outstanding Achievement Award, and the 2020 Schools Foundation Local Business Impact Award.
